Reports have it that the Arsenal have topped their proposal by €6 million for the Sampdoria duo – Joachim Andersen and Dennis Praet after having their bid of €42m rejected by Massimo Ferrero, the club’s president. With Arsenal having failed to beat Chelsea in the Europa League final, they have a lean budget this summer. Thus, sealing a deal for the duo could be huge cost mitigation.
Dennis Praet, an attacking midfielder and Joachim Andersen a center back are still young players who featured in manager Marco Giampaolo’s team as Sampdoria finished in the ninth place in the Serie A last season. Praet, a Belgian is 25, while Danish player Andersen is 23. This is a good inclusion for Arsenal as it facilitates the abatement of the average player age in the squad and the opportunity for the new manager to build the team for the long-term.
Andersen is known for his long-range passes from the back. Sampdoria’s play last season was built on his diagonal passes to the flanks which he executed with both feet. This could help Unai Emery’s interest in building the attack from his team’s defensive third. Also, Andersen is expected to be a boost to Arsenal’s shabby defense. In a season that summarily was bad for Arsenal, they conceded 51 League goals, with Mustafi receiving backlash from many.
Praet being an attacking midfielder could fill the space created if Mesut Ozil – who has been linked with a transfer away from Arsenal amongst others including Shkodran Mustafi – eventually leaves the club. He completed 37 dribbles and created 39 chances for last season for Sampdoria reflecting his playmaking ability.
A trade with Sampdoria is not new as last summer, Arsenal secured the signature of 23-year-old Lucas Torreira from the Serie A club. This week has seen what could dub continued patronage as the air was thick with reports of a €42m bid for Praet and Anderson in what talkSPORT tagged “a stunning double swoop.“
The former was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium last summer and had a release clause of €25m before renewing his contract earlier in the season.
Arsenal has had their initial €42m bid rejected earlier this week but has now taken steps forward in a bid to seal the deal. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, yesterday night, Arsenal sent a new offer of €48 million to Sampdoria for the duo which gives hope of success for the deal as the club president is reportedly ready to accept the new offer.
